Web 2.0

Prior to beginning my studies, I had heard the term Web 2.0 and Library 2.0, but never had any real understanding of what it was all about, what it meant and, more importantly, the implications for today's libraries.

I felt that this would be a dry old subject! Little did I know that subject would change my life! Well, maybe I'm exaggerating, but it has had an incredible impact both personally and professionally.

I've always been fairly computer savvy, but I had no idea on what I was missing out on. Now I'm Skypeing my daughter in London, chatting with Facebook friends and blogging away on various sites. Professionally, I now find my self in charge of IT professional development in the school where I am working.

So, what is the most important thing I've picked up in this subject so far? I think that it is, if we want Library 2.0 to become a reality for everyone, it requires a new breed of librarian, Librarian 2.0! It is the skills of the new wave of librarians that will lead libraries (perhaps kicking and screaming!) successfully into the twenty-first century. I hope I'm up to the challenge!
